We had a nice turnout at Sunday’s screening of our 15-minute work-in-progress. It was great to see some old faces, including ex-DMNers Michael Precker and Bill Marvel who appear in the cut. As a result of the screening, we’ve gotten some press this week from the Morning News and from ex-DMN TV critic Ed Bark on his blog.
Friend and former colleague Chris Vognar calls the preview “a studious, well-sourced overview.” For his part, Ed worried about whether “Stop the Presses” would lose its initial Dallas focus. We always intended to expand the film beyond our backyard and my former employer, but we had no idea how widespread the newspaper crisis would become and how much access to the players we would gain.
I suppose we could tell a complete story of sorts through changes at the DMN, but the chance to look at the national picture is too tempting to resist. I expect the final version to loop back to some of the Dallas folks we interviewed last fall, as they now dominate the film’s cold open.
Complete versions of the critiques can been seen in the Press section of this site.
